Must-Read Book List for Women: 5 Books to Promote Positive Life Changes

I am not an avid reader, but I am a picky reader. I love self-help books, always have, and always will I'm sure. The last nine months has been nuts. I blew out my back and was in therapy for two months, followed by recovering from a concussion for two months. During the rest periods, I snuck in audio books and good old fashion soft cover books. Below, are five books I read that helped create positive changes in my life. They all are wonderful resources, and I have provided links to learn more about each one. Please share a COMMENT if you have read one before or plan on giving one a try.

The Richest Man in Babylon
by George S. Clason

I am a true believer that it depends on where my head space is at, that determines if I can receive and act upon great wisdom. Luckily, I am in a season of listening and receiving as much knowledge as I can. This book takes basic financial principles and translates them into stories set in the Babylonian era. The stories help remind me; pay myself first, save for the future, and trust those with expertise. Perfect read for someone who needs an extra kick in the butt to smarten up when it comes to money. The 5 Love Languages
by Gary Chapman

To say I am obsessed with influencing everyone I know to take the quick three-minute quiz on-line at http://www.5lovelanguages.com/profile/, is a HUGE understatement. I am inspired by the winning philosophy that we all love and feel love differently. Once we are aware of such, it can encourage stronger communication, understanding, flexibility, and forgiveness in all of our relationships. If you read the book, and are curious, my love language is Receiving Gifts. I will receive dark chocolate any day of the week. Perfect read for anyone who has human interaction. ABM - Blog Life
by Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman

A Beautiful Mess is my all-time favorite site, outside of I Admire U of course! Elsie and Emma rock at do-it-yourself projects: start a blog, stay organized, make a memorable meal, and make awesome home décor. I bought their E-course, Blog Life, to be inspired by their growth and their tenacity. Their blogging tips help teach me flexibility, organization, and how to think outside of the box. They are a big inspiration to how I think creatively, and how I maintain calm and patient during the growth and evolution of
I Admire U. Perfect read for someone interested in starting her own blog or adding a blog to her company's website. Learn more at: http://shop.abeautifulmess.com/shop/classes/blog-life

Wisdom of Oz
by Roger Conners and Tom Smith

My husband brought this home to read, and I snatched it to read! I was robbed at gunpoint while our baby was three-months old. Even today, the past experience affects how I choose to do or not do certain things. This book has inspired me in two ways: one, a reminder that I have to continue growing beyond the circumstances of that day; two, to get off my butt and stop making excuses for not starting or completing life goals. Perfect read for someone who experiences loss, change, or tragedy. Learn more at: https://www.ozprinciple.com/info/wisdom-of-oz/

Eating Animals
by Jonathan Safran Foer

Yes, I am a vegetarian, but no, that is not why I recommend this book. The information is insightful and empowering. I believe it empowers the reader, the consumer, to make educated choices. I love how the author's main goal isn't to promote veganism, but to share eye-opening facts in a non-pushy tone. Perfect read for anyone who consumes food. Mommy Bloopers: 5 Things I Admit to Doing

Mother's Day is tomorrow, and I find myself giggling about all the crazy things I do as a parent, that might deem me questionable for a  Mother's Day gift.

Below, are 5 funny things I admit to doing as the mommy of an adorable, almost 3-year-old boy.

Eat His Potty Training Rewards

Man, I do this on the regular. I am a sweets-obsessed person, and I'm always hiding behind a pillow or under a blanket to sneak Skittles, M&Ms, or Gummi Bears. Our son calls me out on it every time he catches me, he knows what I'm doing! The shameless part, I eat his potty-training rewards, M&Ms, so much that when he does go potty, I don't have any to give him!

Pretend to Make Breakfast

Our son loves his whole grain waffles, loves them! I use this to my advantage. This is my newest funny mama move: after I set him up for breakfast, I sneak an ice cream sandwich near the toaster. I hug the counter so I'm hidden behind the refrigerator. I figure if he asks what I'm doing, which he does, I can say, "I'm making mama a waffle too." What do I do if I'm craving ice cream before dinner? I make more waffles of course.

I Blink, Maybe I Shouldn't

Every time I blink, something crazy happens. I blink, he bathes in his Jello cup. I blink, he covers his face in bright green marker in a restaurant. I blink, he falls into a koi pond. The little guy won't let me forget this one. Every time he falls, he says, "Mama, I fell into the pond." At the park, he falls, he says, "Mama, I fell into the pond." He gets a new owie, he says, "Mama, I fell into the pond." Note to self: blink sparingly.

Teach Him Quirky Phrases

I say quirky things all the time. When the lil' man repeats the things I say, it is a reminder that I need to get my stuff together. When he eats, he says 50% of the time, "This is yummy in my tummy, silly goose." Bend over and accidentally expose some crack, he will say, "I seeeeeeeee your crack." If I dance when I get out of the shower, this triggers, "Mommy, take my shirt off, I dance my naked body." Recently, I am on an annoying binge of saying "hashtag" every 10 minutes. Yup, you guessed it, he says it now.

Remix His Children's Song

He loves fire trucks, Rescue Bots, and the song, "Wheels on the Bus." So, I make it happen, I remix the song to his liking. I made up a fire truck, Rescue Bot version of the song. The blooper to this, he corrects anyone that sings, "Wheels on the Bus," that it is REALLY, "Wheels on the Fire truck." It you don't know the words to the remix version, whoa, watch out, crazy toddler tantrum. I mean think about it, no one really wants to ride a bus. #remixesarebetter

I hope you have a memorable Mother's Day tomorrow. Cheers! For all the funny things you do while navigating this crazy course, called motherhood.
