Color Me Furnishings

Where I chill when I have free time? Home accents stores! Two things I love, other than my amazing kiddos obviously, are bargains and unique treasures! So.....you can find me racing towards random baskets and oil prints at local resale stores. Vintage brass or wicker is my jam and I can spot it a mile away and watch out because it’s all mine.  I buy what I love and then make it all “go” together some how. I mean I have a definite thought process and reason for my design. I do feel that the more spontaneous I am, the more WOWZA I get from people! So how did I start this adventure?? Well I bought a hideous colonial from 1987 that had original owners. So the 1980’s is where the style started and stayed sadly. I wanted to be happy and feel like this place was my home. I needed to put my personal stamp on it. So there you have it....one room at a time is how I’m making this home of mine awesome. Also, one room at a time is how I’m growing my business!!!!!! I’m the proud owner of Color Me Furnishings. I stumbled into this name one day thinking about how much I love color and how good I am at finding the finishing touches to an space.......BOOM..... Color Me Furnishings!

I'm Meghann VanderBaan, wife, mama, personal style expert, and creator of MVB Style. I don’t consider myself a fashionista, just a regular mom who believes that feeling great in whatever you wear is essential to living your best life. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to style, which is why I’m so passionate about working with clients to build a wardrobe that’s both empowering and practical. Whatever your size, budget, or stage of life - you deserve to feel amazing. When I’m not caring for my family or working on this business, I live for a great cup of coffee, an uplifting audio book or podcast, and a girls’ night out in the Chicago suburbs where I live with my husband and three kiddos.

Anne Pezalla - Co-Owner
Lively Athletics

Picture

Like many entrepreneurs, Anne’s path to owning her store, Lively Athletics, was not a straight one.  She graduated from Grinnell College with a degree in both Biology and Chinese, which has given her a lifelong love of spreadsheets and dumplings. Her post-college careers included kindergarten teacher in China, Great White Shark researcher in South Africa, and cardiac research technician at Loyola Hospital. While at Brown University for her Master’s Degree, she discovered a new passion for running, and devoted more time to that than her thesis, resulting in an incomplete degree but a pretty solid mile time.

Anne’s interest in running grew to be an all-out passion, leading her and her younger sister, Kate, to come up with the idea for opening an athletic apparel store for women in their hometown of Oak Park. They have focused on growing Lively Athletics into a friendly and welcoming store, where female athletes of any ability level can come in for a great conversation and gear to help them reach their goals.  Anne can be found at Lively most days and would love for you to swing in and check out the store, though she will most likely talk your ear off about her latest obsession (competitive powerlifting!), her two beautiful kids, and her doting husband, if you do.

Jena Ertel is a self-starter who loves people, movement, working in pairs and saying YES. [Sometimes too much!] On the daily, she juggles activities that she LOVES: raising her 4-year-old son with husband Chris, managing the household [somewhat feebly], running PomSquad Fitness with co-founder Matthew Hollis, being a passionate student and instructor of barre fitness at The Dailey Method, building a team of entrepreneurs with her Rodan + Fields business, and most recently, co-leading an incredible yoga and fitness retreat in Costa Rica with her superbuddy, Jenny Finkel.  But most importantly, at the heart of all that activity is what Jena holds most dear: relationships. Alison Fyhrie - Top-ranking Financial Advisor
Northwestern Mutual Chicago

Picture

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear”

In the traditionally male-dominated financial services industry, Alison is proud to be a trailblazing female Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual Chicago.

Her interest in financial planning started after a 2005 conversation with her Mom.  Alison remembers, “After hearing that a childhood friend’s parents were divorcing.  My Mom said, ‘If anything ever happened with your Father, I have no idea what I would do- I don’t know anything about our retirement accounts, I don’t understand the stock market, and I’ve been a stay at home Mom for 25 years.  How would I get back into the work force?  Who would hire me?  I don’t even know how to use a computer.’”

Although she was currently pursuing a career in the arts, the seed was planted.  Alison vowed in that moment that she would never feel powerless about her financial future.  Her interest in financial planning turned into a hobby, and finally in 2012 she decided to start taking courses towards her CFP through Northwestern University, and began working as a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual Chicago in 2014.

At Northwestern Mutual, she quickly acquired the office nickname of “The Hustler” due to her strong work ethic and commitment to building a robust, client-centric practice.  Out of the Chicago office’s 116 financial advisors, she currently ranks as #8 in new client acquisition, a position she has held since last year.  Nationally, she ranks in the top 50 for young advisors in her tenure category, and was selected to join “1872”, her firm’s leadership program.

Alison’s mission is to help women feel educated and empowered about their financial future.  Her vision for her practice is to transform the American family dynamic by shattering the silence and taboo around money and working to create a healthy dialogue about finance between generations.

Alison recently moved from Forest Park to Elmhurst, where she resides with her husband Adam and their 3 year old daughter Scarlett.
